Montessori Pedagogy: The Key Principles
Maria Montessori was convinced of the importance and necessity of respecting children's individuality. She developed her own pedagogy, the Montessori method, which is now recognized worldwide. This is the approach implemented in all our facilities, based on certain fundamental principles.
1. Learning through movement
In a Montessori environment, the child has the opportunity to meet their natural need for movement, both through the freedom to move around the room and by handling educational materials.
2. The freedom to choose
The child is free to choose an activity that interests them, provided that the activity has already been presented by their educators and is not being used by another child.
3. Learning to do it alone
The Montessori pedagogy aims to empower the child to take charge of their own learning. The self-correcting nature of the materials allows the child to work independently, without adult assistance. The educator's approach—both supportive and discreet—is essential in the Montessori method.
4. Adapting to the child
Babyhome educators carefully prepare the environment to meet the children's needs, both in terms of furniture and the materials available to the child. The educator will also ensure to follow the child in their learning according to their own pace.
5. Teaching one concept at a time
